If you’re working with a holistic practitioner to help you find sustainable weight loss, here are some good questions to ask:

1. What is your background and experience in helping women find weight loss in a holistic way?

2. What holistic approaches do you recommend for weight loss?

3. What does a  personalized holistic weight loss plan look like?

4. What ongoing support and follow-up can I expect throughout my holistic weight loss journey?

5. Do you offer guidance on mindfulness and stress management for weight loss?

6. Do you have success stories or testimonials from patients who have achieved holistic weight loss?

7. Are there potential side effects or contraindications I should be aware of with holistic weight loss approaches?

8. Can a holistic doctor help me lose weight?

9. What is the expected timeframe for seeing results with holistic weight loss methods?

10. Do you address emotions in regards to weight?

questions to ask about holistic weight loss

Common Questions:

What is the holistic approach to weight loss?

Holistic weight loss is an approach that takes the whole person into account.

My approach is physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. The “old way” of losing weight–cutting out foods, punishing ourselves, following a strict plan and doing exercise we hate–doesn’t give us what we truly want: freedom AND sustainable weight loss.

If we want our bodies to be at a comfortable weight for the long haul, we need to have a new way of approaching weight.

What dietary changes should I consider for healthy weight loss?

Each person is different.

My philosophy is to work with the body, not against the body. We don’t automatically cut anything out or make changes.

We first work to find out what foods bring you energy, how much protein is right for your body, how much food your body needs and what your relationship is to food (is it emotional, etc.) This then leads to gentle changes we can make together that help you bring you towards your goals.

How can I address emotional eating with a holistic approach?

Emotional eating is a huge part of weight.

Many of us who have battled weight eat for emotional reasons—out of boredom, when we’re stressed or overwhelmed, if we feel lonely, and everything in between. It can be helpful to begin a journal to link when you overeat with what emotions you’re feeling.

Starting to see patterns is the first step towards change! We then start to look at how to get those needs met without food.

How do we cope with stress or boredom without turning to food? It all starts with experimenting with non-food related “solutions” like journaling, coaching, breathwork, etc to see what your body needs to move through an emotion.

What types of physical activities align with holistic weight-loss principles?

When we’re in the diet world, we learn to think of exercise as punishment.

But learning that movement can be enjoyable and fun is helpful in finding an activity for “exercise” that you’ll stick with for the long haul.

What is the expected timeframe for seeing results with holistic weight loss methods?

In our instant gratification society, we expect quick results.

Diets teach us to look at the short term and in reality, any lasting change happens over the long haul. I’ve had clients lose weight in a few months. Others it takes longer. It all depends on where we are in our journey and what we are ready for.
